Yes to this dress?

Here  is a sneek peak of my new dress that I did actually buy, and did not walk away from. I would like to say that I generally will not buy horizontal stripes… do to watching entirely too many “What Not to Wear” episodes. I spotted this one in the window, and luckily had my husband with me to give his opinion.

I say lucky, because my husband will give his honest opinion, sometimes he regrets it. I am truly appreciative that he still does, despite the wrath he receives from time to time. He approved of this one, and chose it above another that I had already bought. So I said yes to the dress.

Opinions? What do you think?

The dangers of being cheap!

I have a wedding to attend at the end of May, and contemplated buying a new dress for the occasion. I decided just to “see what was out there” a few weekends ago. I went to the usual places, and The Limited being one of them, I popped in there too. This amazing dress was before me! In. LoVe! Yes, you guessed correctly, I walked away.

In my defense, Easter was coming up, and I KNEW it would be on sale once it had past, right?! Well, right… but once it was on sale, no more in my size :(

“But, Katrina, zoom over to the internet and order it."

Nope! Gone there too. Don’t fret though, I went to the outlet mall this weekend. I’m not AS in LoVe with the one I picked up, but it has pockets!

The simple things in life

My husband bought me some lovely roses for International Women’s Day, March 8th. I got a dozen of them, half white and half purple; the colors from our wedding. Isn’t it lovely when your husband remembers the little things?

I was hoping to bring a couple of them to work with me, to enjoy there, but I couldn’t find my bud vase. Actually, do I even own a bud vase? hmmmm… I went ahead to work without them this morning. When I got there, the universe must have heard me, because one of my coworkers were drinking out of this bottle. I walked up to him and said “Oh I see Starbucks changed their packaging. I am such a sucker for cool, unique packaging.” Just like that I had an empty bottle in my hands. Lucky for me I work in the print industry, so getting the sticky label goo off was as easy as walking over to get the acetone off the press. I had the twine in my drawer at home, from use in my garden. So? What do you think? It will look nice on my desk at work, right?

Culture & Weddings

Yesterday I let you in on the not-so-secret secret, that I love weddings…. so when this beauty was in my mailbox, I was ecstatic! Look at all the detail on this invite. Plus I think I mentioned before that I am a graphic designer by day, so the typography on this makes my heart go pitter-pat.

The other thing about this wedding that was super close to my heart? It was, what I would call a mixed culture wedding. The brides family from India, and the groom’s family, from Bosnia. I get a little excited about this, since I am too in a mixed culture marriage. I really love the details of different cultures and their traditions. Since I am a American, and a product of the mixing pot, I did not have any strong cultural traditions growing up. Maybe this is the reason it intrigues me. Anyway about it… I was loving all the details of this wedding: the dresses, the dances, the music differences, & My all time favorite, the henna! Amazing? I think so.

A trip to D.C.

Last year for my birthday, my husband & I made a quick trip to Washington D.C. He had to conduct some business, and surprised me at the last minute that, P.S. I was going along! When I say quick trip, I mean we had a babysitter overnight… So I call this my “D.C. in 24 hrs.” trip. It was actually lots of fun, being rushed made us power walk our way through the mall. Then the next day, while hubby “worked”, I powered my way through a mall of a different kind.

Some people might be thinking not such a great trip, but it was just perfect for my first night away from my babies (2 &3 at the time).

Fast forward a little less than a year later and my brother was surprised by his girlfriend for his birthday. A weekend away in D.C. was just right for him.. he sort of likes it there :)

Now fast forward another 7 months, my brother returned the favor to his girlfriend for a little “getaway”… when he called my cell last night they were on their way to a Monuments by moonlight tour (which I didn’t know existed). He just give me a quick call to let me know there is a wedding in the future…My “little” brother is engaged!

I don’t know what is the best part of this situation? My brother is snagging himself an amazing girl, or I am getting a wonderful sister-in-law?! Oh , I <3 weddings!

Moral of the story? Washington D.C. is an awesome place where lots of fun is to be had, if you stay away from all that politics crap! hahaha

(and I am a big treehugger)

It brings a smile to my face…

I follow a lot of blogs, even too many to keep up with sometimes. I just love the creative brains of people, it amazes me. Sometimes I have to admit, I am a little jealous, but then I come up with a “good thing” myself. I need some creative juice, and I turn to you and you and you for it. Thank you!

I was zooming around all my different blogs that I love, and went to this post. She was talking about how amazing it was to work with these people, and it triggered my memory on something… I jumped over here to see if my picture was still there, and sure enough, IT WAS! I had to share with you all about this day, and this picture: my photographer made the comment after this shot “most brides wouldn’t have went out on a dirty rocky pier in their wedding dress” but, what can I say, I am a sucker for the “perfect shot”. (We are the picture third down, mostly blue shot)

P.S. I never forget how much I love my husband, but these two pictures STILL make my heart melt almost six years later!

Wedding_boxes

When I mention wedding to my husband, his mind immediately goes to the week before the wedding. Thoughts of me running around like a chicken with my head cut off! My panic came to the for front when I realized that *maybe* I bit off too much with wanting to paint 100+ boxes, put ribbon on them and glue a monogram letter on it! What was I thinking? Lucky for me I got a very understanding husband, and a perfectionist just like me :)

My dear husband called this his *sweat-shoppe*....
I am glad we have this memory to laugh about now, and the awesome results on every table.
In the each box was my favorite candy and his favorite candy.
Mine was a Lindor Truffle & his is Raffaello.

Wedding _ Cake

So, of course I did not make my wedding cake myself...
but I did design it. I came across a picture of square cakes with the
corners cut off *just like mine* and viola! An image popped into my
mine of a cake with a monogram on the front, all off-white, just details
in design. No color just simplicity! Hope you think it is as gorgeous as I do.

My Wedding _ Water

Because I work in a label company, I work closely with a water bottle company. I designed a label for our wedding. My boss give me labels for my wedding present, & the water bottle company give me water for a wedding present, and viola!
